Tom Holland teases a fresh cinematic approach and a back-to-basics reboot for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to hit theatres on July 31, 2026, with real locations, new cast members, and a nostalgic nod to the original trilogy.

Los Angeles, July 15:
Tom Holland is set to return as Peter Parker in the highly anticipated fourth installment of the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and according to the actor, the film is poised to serve as a “breath of fresh air” for fans and for Marvel’s approach to superhero storytelling.

Appearing on the YouTube series Flip Your Wig, Holland opened up about the new direction and what makes this film stand out from its predecessors.

“Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal,” Holland said warmly. “And I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID; we shot the entire film on stages. Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations.”

Holland revealed that the film’s production will kick off in Glasgow, with elaborate set pieces designed on the city’s streets, a major departure from the controlled environments used during the pandemic-era filming of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

“It’s gonna feel like making [2017’s] Spider-Man 1 again… such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air,” he said, hinting at a grounded and emotionally resonant storytelling approach.

New Chapter, New Stakes

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will continue the story following the emotional and reality-resetting finale of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where Doctor Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) cast a global memory-erasing spell, leaving Peter Parker completely forgotten by those who once loved him, including MJ (played by Zendaya).

As the MCU prepares to explore a more intimate and personal storyline for the now-isolated hero, the new film also marks a shift in production tone — moving away from green-screen-heavy sequences to real-world locations and gritty, practical visuals.

Behind the Scenes and Casting Buzz

Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will helm the project, with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal returning as producers. Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, joining Holland once again as the central emotional anchor.

Adding fresh energy to the cast are Sadie Sink (of Stranger Things fame) and Liza Colón-Zayas (from The Bear), though their roles remain under wraps. Filming is expected to begin once Holland and Zendaya complete work on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey.

Building on a Billion-Dollar Legacy

The bar is set high. Spider-Man: No Way Home became the seventh highest-grossing film in global box office history, raking in $1.95 billion worldwide. Its nostalgic blend of multiverse storytelling, emotional stakes, and cameos from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield left fans euphoric.

But this time, Marvel is dialing it back — focusing less on spectacle and more on character, roots, and narrative texture.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated for a theatrical release on July 31, 2026, and will likely mark the beginning of a new phase for the web-slinger — one that promises emotional depth, street-level storytelling, and an homage to the hero’s earliest days.
