Air India flight aborts first landing attempt at Jaipur, lands safely on second try

January 28, 2026: Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had a narrow escape on Wednesday after the Air India flight he was travelling in aborted its initial landing attempt at Jaipur International Airport. Flight AI-19 from Delhi was forced to execute a “go-around” during final descent after the pilots detected an unstable approach, airport sources said. Passengers onboard described tense moments as the aircraft suddenly pulled up just before touchdown.

The pilot later informed passengers that the precautionary manoeuvre was carried out in the interest of safety. The aircraft circled Jaipur airspace for around 10 minutes before making a second landing attempt, which was completed successfully. The safe touchdown brought visible relief to passengers and crew after the mid-air scare.

Randhawa, who is the AICC in-charge for Rajasthan, was travelling to Jaipur for political meetings and continued with his scheduled engagements after landing. While “go-arounds” are a standard aviation safety procedure, the incident has once again drawn attention to flight operation stability. Air India is yet to issue a detailed statement, while the DGCA is expected to review the flight’s technical and digital logs as part of routine protocol.
