Indian television actress and social media personality Uorfi Javed has stirred debate online after revealing that a vendor allegedly demanded ₹80 lakh to arrange her entry to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, Uorfi shared a screenshot of a conversation in which a person informed her that a vendor was willing to facilitate Cannes access — but only for the hefty fee.

The message in the screenshot read:
“So I’ve found one vendor who will take us to Cannes, but is charging 80l. Which makes no sense.”

Responding to the suggestion, Uorfi wrote:
“lol ???? No ways.”

She later added a caption expressing disbelief at the amount being quoted.
“80 lakhs for Cannes? Mai India me theek hu! Itna kya desperation badh gaya hai Cannes ka that people are ready to pay 80 lakhs!!!!” she wrote.

The revelation quickly gained traction online, triggering discussions about the monetisation of celebrity appearances and the growing pressure among influencers to gain global visibility.

Debate Over Monetisation Of Red Carpet Appearances

Uorfi’s post sparked widespread conversation on social media about the business behind red carpet appearances at global events like Cannes.

The incident also renewed discussions about how brands and agencies often sponsor influencers and celebrities to represent them at international events as part of marketing campaigns.

Known for her experimental fashion sense and DIY outfits, Uorfi frequently makes headlines for her bold red-carpet looks and viral appearances.

Uorfi Previously Questioned Cannes Hype

This is not the first time Uorfi has shared her candid views about the glamour surrounding Cannes.

Earlier, after facing a visa rejection, she publicly clarified that attending the Cannes Film Festival is not necessarily tied to artistic merit.

Sharing her perspective on Instagram, she said:
“Going to Cannes is not about talent or recognition. Many companies purchase access to the red carpet and invite influencers or celebrities to represent them. It’s a marketing tool.”

She further explained that, in her view, attending Cannes becomes truly meaningful only when a film is officially selected for screening.

“Unless your movie is premiering at Cannes, then yes, it holds weight and is something to be proud of. But in all other cases, anyone with the right resources can do it. It’s about money and exposure — not merit,” she added.
