With a ₹775 crore gross and counting, Chhaava becomes 2025’s biggest Indian blockbuster—but over 1800 pirated links threaten its digital prospects as Mumbai Police launch probe.
Mumbai, March 22 – Vicky Kaushal’s historical action epic Chhaava has emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, racing past ₹775 crore gross worldwide in just 35 days. The film, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is still going strong in its 6th week and is expected to run in theatres for at least 8 weeks before heading to OTT.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava features Vicky Kaushal in a powerful portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj, alongside Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The film was released on February 14 and has so far grossed approximately ₹683 crore in India and ₹92 crore overseas, taking its total to ₹775 crore.
🎥 Piracy Hits Before OTT Release
Despite its roaring success, Chhaava has now fallen prey to massive digital piracy, even before its OTT debut. HD prints of the film have been leaked across over 1,800 illegal links, triggering swift legal action.

The Mumbai Police has reportedly registered a case, and producer Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, anticipating piracy threats, had already hired an anti-piracy agency to monitor digital activity.
The South Cyber Cell has filed an FIR under multiple sections:
- Indian Penal Code (BNS): Sections 316(2), 308(3)
- Copyright Act: Sections 51, 63, and 65(A)
- Information Technology (IT) Act: Sections 43 and 66
This isn’t the first time a high-profile Bollywood release has faced such a breach, but the scale of the Chhaava leak is especially alarming considering its ongoing box office run and delayed OTT schedule.

The film’s box office journey has been extraordinary, driven by positive word-of-mouth, patriotic fervor, and a grand visual treatment. Trade analysts believe Chhaava may cross the ₹800 crore mark before entering the digital space, cementing its status as a modern epic.
With piracy now threatening potential OTT revenues, producers are reportedly working with platforms and authorities to curb further leaks and ensure the film’s digital value remains intact.
