Actor shares emotional note, says setback “broke the hope” but effort matters more
January 24, 2026: Actor Vishal Jethwa penned an emotional note on Instagram after his film Homebound failed to make it to the final list of Oscar nominations. Beginning his post with the words “Homebound” and “Oscars” separated by a broken heart emoji, Jethwa admitted that the outcome did “break the hope” the team had nurtured. However, he stressed that the real failure lies in not trying, adding that the entire team only focused on giving its best from day one.
Expressing pride despite the setback, Jethwa wrote that reaching the top 15 itself was a huge achievement. He said being associated with the Oscars was more than he had ever imagined or deserved. Thanking the entire Homebound team, the actor quoted poet Rashtrakavi Sohan Lal Dwivedi’s famous lines, highlighting the importance of perseverance and effort in the face of disappointment.
Earlier, filmmaker Karan Johar also shared his thoughts on social media, posting a collage from the film and praising director Neeraj Ghaywan. Calling the journey a matter of pride, Johar thanked Ghaywan for his vision. In response, Ghaywan credited Johar’s constant support for the film’s Oscar journey, calling him an “absolute rock” and expressing gratitude for standing by the team throughout.
