Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai said his newly launched political movement has attracted nearly 1.7 million members
June 8, 2026: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on Monday said his newly launched political movement, “We the Leaders,” is approaching 1.7 million members within just three days of its launch. The announcement comes shortly after Annamalai resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party and unveiled the initiative, which aims to promote political change in Tamil Nadu through a people-centric leadership model.
Thanking supporters for their enthusiastic response, Annamalai said the movement was founded with the goal of bringing meaningful political transformation to the state. He stated that the immediate focus would be on expanding membership and building a strong organisational structure. He also reiterated that no posts or responsibilities have been assigned so far, adding that leadership roles would be decided at a later stage based on merit and suitability.
The former BJP leader also issued a warning against groups operating in his name without authorization. He said several organisations had been using his name and photographs while appointing office-bearers, despite having no connection with the movement. Urging such groups to stop these activities immediately, Annamalai appealed to supporters to register only through the official platform of “We the Leaders” and not be misled by unauthorised organisations.
