The CBSE Moderation Policy

To maintain fairness across the various sets of question papers used during the 53-day exam period, CBSE employs a Moderation Policy. This mechanism balances scores if certain paper sets were found to be significantly more difficult than others or if errors were identified in specific questions. This standardisation ensures that a student’s final grade reflects their proficiency rather than the luck of which paper set they received.
