The Indian Embassy in Oman said rescue operations are underway after the Indian-flagged vessel Virat 1
June 14, 2026: The Indian Embassy in Oman on Sunday confirmed that it had been informed of an incident involving the Indian-flagged mechanised sailing vessel Virat 1 off the Omani coast. According to preliminary information, the vessel encountered technical difficulties while at sea, prompting emergency response measures.
The embassy stated that the vessel suffered an engine failure, making it unsafe for the crew to remain on board. As a precaution, all 14 Indian crew members reportedly abandoned the vessel and moved safely into a liferaft while awaiting assistance.
Rescue and search operations are currently being carried out in coordination with Omani authorities. The Indian Embassy said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains in constant contact with local agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of the crew members. Further updates are expected as the rescue effort progresses.
