The Air India flight goes back to Jaipur. Latest in a string of problems due to a technical issue
We are still waiting for a full comment from Air India about this incident, but the return of AI-612 adds to a recent run of technical problems that the airline and its subsidiary have been having.

An Air India Express flight (IX 375) carrying 188 people to Doha had to turn back to Calicut International Airport two hours after departure on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, because of a technical failure. An airport official said that the plane had to land because of a problem with the cabin air conditioning, but it was not an emergency landing.

Also, on Monday, July 21, 2025, an Air India flight from Kochi went off the runway when it landed at Mumbai airport during heavy rain, damaging its engine cowling and a flap. Everyone got off the plane safely, and the backup runway was opened. Another incident happened on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, when an Air India flight from Hong Kong to Delhi had an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire after landing.

These events happen at a time when Indian airlines are under more scrutiny for their technical reliability. According to data from the national government, as of July 21, 2025, five Indian airlines had a total of 183 technical problems. Air India and Air India Express were responsible for 85 of these problems. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) looks into all reports of technical problems to make sure that fixes are made.
