SBSP chief Om Prakash Rajbhar claims Samajwadi Party leaders may join the BJP

June 17, 2026: A fresh political controversy has emerged in Uttar Pradesh after state minister and SBSP chief Om Prakash Rajbhar claimed that the Samajwadi Party (SP) could be facing a major internal split. Rajbhar alleged that several SP leaders were ready to leave the party and join the BJP, raising questions about the opposition party’s unity ahead of future elections. His remarks come amid wider discussions about internal dissent and defections within opposition parties across the country.

Responding to the claims, SP president Akhilesh Yadav brushed aside the speculation with a sharp remark. Referring to Rajbhar’s comments, Yadav said, “Dana aur gana kab tak chalega yeh afsana,” a statement widely seen as a sarcastic dismissal of recurring rumours surrounding his party. His response signalled that the SP leadership does not view Rajbhar’s allegations as credible.

Rajbhar initially made the claims on social media before repeating them while speaking to reporters. He suggested that major political developments could soon take place within the SP and linked his comments to reports of political instability in states such as Maharashtra and West Bengal. Political observers believe Rajbhar’s remarks were aimed at portraying opposition parties as vulnerable to internal divisions and defections.
