Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav indicated that AIMIM is unlikely to be accommodated within the INDIA Bloc

June 16, 2026: Political activity is intensifying ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with parties beginning to shape their strategies for the crucial contest. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has been seeking to expand its footprint in Uttar Pradesh following its efforts in Bihar and had recently expressed interest in an alliance with the Samajwadi Party.

Responding to these remarks, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav suggested that political forces like AIMIM ultimately help the BJP. Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Yadav asserted that the INDIA Bloc would remain united and claimed that several groups and individuals would emerge to create obstacles for the opposition alliance. His comments signal that AIMIM is unlikely to be included in the INDIA Bloc in Uttar Pradesh.

Yadav also claimed that the opposition had recently defeated the BJP and alleged that the ruling party would attempt every possible strategy to regain lost ground. Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, he said Samajwadi Party workers and the public were prepared for the battle. He further criticised the government over issues such as inflation, unemployment, corruption, and what he described as a weak foreign policy.
