Bharatiya Janata Party surges ahead in West Bengal, with Amit Shah calling it a decisive mandate against appeasement politics.
May 4, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to form the government in West Bengal, winning 40 seats and leading in 165, effectively ending Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year rule. The results signal a major political shift in the state after a fiercely contested election.
Reacting to the outcome, Amit Shah said the verdict sends a strong message against “infiltrators and their sympathisers,” adding that voters have rejected appeasement politics. He assured that the BJP would honour the trust placed in the leadership of Narendra Modi and work to fulfil public aspirations.
Shah also highlighted the party’s vision of restoring the “lost glory” of Bengal, referring to the legacy of figures like Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Syama Prasad Mukherjee. He reiterated the party’s commitment to building a “Sonar Bangla” following its landmark performance.
