Home Minister cites strong voter turnout and internal feedback to project BJP’s chances
April 24, 2026: Amit Shah expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party is set for a decisive victory in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, claiming the party will win over 110 of the 152 seats and form the government. He also said that if elected, the BJP would appoint a Bangla-speaking Chief Minister, underscoring its outreach to local identity.
Citing internal feedback after the first phase of polling, Shah said the high turnout indicated that voters had already made up their minds. Referring to the strong participation across districts, he suggested that the results signal a shift in public sentiment, adding that the BJP expects to consolidate its position further in the remaining phases.
He also praised the conduct of the elections, crediting the Election Commission of India, security forces, and administration for ensuring a largely peaceful process. Highlighting voter participation as a sign of democratic strength, Shah said the ongoing election reflects a transition toward greater public trust and engagement in West Bengal.
