Amit Shah steps up attack on Mamata Banerjee while promising resolution to Gorkha demands

April 15, 2026: Amit Shah addressed a high-energy rally in Darjeeling on Poila Baisakh, positioning the region as a BJP stronghold while launching a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress. With the 2026 Assembly elections in focus, he recalled the party’s clean sweep in Darjeeling’s five seats in 2021 and expressed confidence in repeating the performance.

Focusing on the long-pending Gorkha issue, Shah promised a “permanent solution” within the constitutional framework if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal. He alleged that under the current government, many Gorkhas faced false cases and claimed a “police raj” prevailed in the hills. Taking a dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said repeated attempts to hold discussions were ignored, prompting him to directly reach out to the people of Bengal.

Sharpening his attack further, Shah accused the state government of deliberately keeping the issue unresolved and vowed to end infiltration, syndicate networks, and what he termed “goonda raj” if the BJP forms the government. He also assured that cases against Gorkha activists would be withdrawn and reiterated the party’s commitment to addressing their grievances and ensuring their rights.
