Ashwini Vaishnaw reviews upgraded Indian Railways coaches at New Delhi Railway Station
April 5, 2026: The Indian Railways is set to introduce upgraded Amrit Bharat coaches featuring new colour themes and improved interiors to enhance passenger comfort and travel experience. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected the sample coaches at New Delhi Railway Station, highlighting the focus on modern design, better aesthetics, and safety. The redesigned coaches include upgraded PVC flooring, improved seat and berth materials, curtains, snack tables, and modified lavatory areas.
The new coaches feature a coordinated colour scheme aimed at giving a uniform and elegant look while also ensuring easier maintenance. The materials used meet HL3 fire safety standards, reducing fire risks and improving passenger safety. Officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise train coaches, enhance onboard ambience, and deliver a more comfortable and world-class travel experience across all segments.
Vaishnaw also shared that the upgraded coaches will offer better seating, charging points, improved ventilation, and well-designed toilets, bringing general coaches closer to premium standards. In addition, he announced infrastructure upgrades at the station, including the installation of around 1,500 AI-enabled cameras for security and mandatory ID cards and jackets for staff and vendors to improve identification and safety.
