Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai met Amit Shah, Nitin Nabin and B.L. Santhosh in New Delhi as speculation over his resignation
June 2, 2026: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai held a series of high-level meetings with the party’s central leadership in New Delhi on Tuesday amid growing speculation about his political future. According to sources, Annamalai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin and senior organisational leader B.L. Santhosh to discuss reports surrounding his alleged resignation and future responsibilities within the party. However, sources clarified that no formal resignation letter has been submitted by Annamalai so far.
Party insiders said the discussions primarily focused on Annamalai’s role in the BJP going forward. Sources dismissed reports claiming that he had already stepped down, stating that the matter remains under discussion. Further consultations between Annamalai and BJP president Nitin Nabin were also expected as the leadership continues to evaluate the situation.
The former Tamil Nadu BJP chief is expected to return to the state and address the media within the next two days. Speculation over his future intensified after he was replaced by Nainar Nagendran as state BJP president and following the revival of the BJP-AIADMK alliance ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Rumours about a possible new political outfit have also surfaced, although neither Annamalai nor the BJP has made any official announcement, keeping political observers focused on his next move.
