Kisan Trust event highlights empowerment and support for acid attack survivors
March 10, 2026: Marking International Women’s Day, Kisan Trust organised the Aparajita Samman Samaroh 2026 in New Delhi to celebrate women’s resilience, achievements and empowerment. The programme brought together hundreds of women from different regions, including Delhi and Muzaffarnagar, creating a platform for discussions on women’s empowerment and the rehabilitation of acid attack survivors. Trustee Charu Chaudhary said the initiative aims to recognise the struggles and successes of women while promoting opportunities and dignity for them across society.
The event was attended by Annapurna Devi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development, who served as the chief guest and appreciated the Trust’s efforts to support women from diverse backgrounds. Founded by former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, the organisation has long worked for farmers and underserved communities, while also supporting acid attack survivors through financial assistance and social initiatives.
A key highlight of the programme was a panel discussion titled “Empowerment through Employment” featuring speakers including Anna Roy of NITI Aayog, Kanta Singh from UN Women India, fintech expert Shinjini Kumar and veteran broadcaster Salma Sultan. Entrepreneur Pooja Sharma, known as the “Millet Mom,” shared her journey in women’s entrepreneurship, while Mangala Kapoor, a Padma Shri awardee and acid attack survivor, was honoured for her inspiring life story and contributions to Indian classical music.
