The proposed legislation, officially titled ‘The Uniform Civil Code, Assam, 2026 Bill’, was taken up for discussion and passage during the ongoing Assembly session.
Opposition parties criticised the move, calling the Bill part of the BJP’s “political agenda” and warning that it could affect the rights, customs, and traditions of several communities.
