Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi used the BRICS Summit platform to criticise the United States and Israel
May 14, 2026: Abbas Araghchi strongly criticised the United States and Israel while addressing world leaders at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. Referring to growing geopolitical tensions, Araghchi said, “A wounded animal will desperately claw and roar on its way down,” as he accused Washington and Tel Aviv of violating international law through what he described as “illegal aggression” against Iran.
The Iranian minister urged BRICS nations to explicitly condemn actions by the US and Israel and called for steps to prevent the “politicisation of international institutions.” He also appealed to member states to act against “warmongering” and end impunity for countries accused of violating the UN Charter. Araghchi warned that regional instability caused by geopolitical conflicts ultimately harms all sides, describing such policies as a “lose-lose proposition.”
During his address, Araghchi also described BRICS as a symbol of an emerging global order led increasingly by the Global South, while cautioning that the grouping remains fragile amid rising global tensions. The summit in New Delhi brought together key leaders and representatives, including Sergey Lavrov, Mauro Vieira and Ronald Lamola. China was represented by Ambassador Xu Feihong as Foreign Minister Wang Yi remained in Beijing during Donald Trump’s visit.
