The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said the SIT was formed immediately after allegations surfaced
June 26, 2026: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath defended the state government’s handling of the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, saying a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted immediately after the allegations emerged and action began as soon as the preliminary report was submitted. Addressing a public gathering, he urged people not to tarnish the image of Ayodhya, calling it a symbol of unity and Sanatan Dharma. He said those found responsible had been arrested and appealed to people to allow the investigation to proceed based on evidence rather than speculation.
The chief minister also criticised the Congress and opposition parties, accusing them of attempting to undermine public faith and politicise the issue. He alleged that those who had opposed the Ram Temple in the past were now questioning its administration for political gain. Without naming anyone directly, Adityanath also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party, claiming that Delhi had witnessed corruption while Ayodhya had transformed under the BJP-led government with improved infrastructure, better connectivity, and an international airport.
Meanwhile, police produced all eight accused before the court after their arrest in connection with the case. The FIR was registered on the complaint of Krishna Mohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, following recommendations made by the SIT. According to sources, the SIT’s preliminary findings rejected several viral allegations, including claims that donated silver bricks had gone missing. Investigators found that the silver donations were properly documented, later melted as per trust procedures, and securely stored in a bank locker. Officials said the investigation is continuing and further action will depend on the evidence gathered.
