Yoga guru Baba Ramdev said people of all faiths share common ancestry

July 13, 2026: Amid the ongoing debate over the idea of a Hindu Rashtra, yoga guru Baba Ramdev said people belonging to different religions share common ancestors and should not fear the concept. Speaking to ABP News, he said he has never supported the exclusion of any community and emphasised that the Constitution and the nation remain supreme. Ramdev added that India should aim to become a global leader economically, socially, and politically while promoting unity among all citizens.

Responding to criticism from some Muslim clerics, Ramdev said divisions are created by political and religious leaders who encourage hatred for personal interests. He claimed that people across the Indian subcontinent, including in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Indonesia, share common ancestry despite following different faiths. Recalling a visit to Deoband in 2009, he said his remarks on shared heritage had received a positive response from religious scholars present there.

Ramdev maintained that only a small minority disagrees with his views, while most Muslims recognise their ancestral roots despite changes in religion over time. He also highlighted the growing acceptance of yoga across communities, saying practices such as Surya Namaskar, Kapalbhati, and Anulom Vilom are increasingly embraced worldwide. Concluding his remarks, he stressed that gratitude toward one’s ancestors, respect for India’s civilisational heritage, and adherence to constitutional values should remain above religious or political divisions.
