May 22, 2026: Ahead of Bakri Eid celebrations on May 28, subject to moon sighting, the Delhi Government has issued detailed guidelines regulating animal sacrifice, waste disposal and the sale of animals across the city. Delhi minister Kapil Mishra warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone violating rules related to prohibited animal sacrifice or illegal animal trading.

The government clarified that the sacrifice of prohibited animals, including cows, calves, cattle and camels, is completely illegal in Delhi. Authorities also banned animal sacrifice in public places, stating that sacrifices can only take place at officially approved locations. Mishra further said that setting up illegal animal markets on roads, streets or residential colonies would invite criminal action.

The advisory also prohibits dumping animal blood or waste into drains, sewers or public areas after sacrifice. Citizens have been urged to report any violations to the police or the Delhi Government’s Development Department. Officials said the measures are aimed at maintaining public hygiene, law and order, and proper civic management during the festival period.
