Punjab CM plans intervention as multiple AAP Rajya Sabha MPs switch sides, sparking political churn
April 25, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has sought a meeting with the President to address the recent political developments involving Rajya Sabha members from the state. According to sources, Mann is expected to meet along with Punjab MLAs to push for the recall of MPs who have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), raising concerns over the shifting political landscape.
The development follows Raghav Chadha announcing his move to the BJP, along with a significant group of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MPs. Chadha claimed that seven out of AAP’s 10 Rajya Sabha members are set to merge with the BJP, fulfilling the two-thirds requirement. He alleged that AAP has deviated from its original anti-corruption stance and is now “corrupt and compromised.” Leaders including Harbhajan Singh and Swati Maliwal were named among those joining the BJP, along with Rajinder Gupta, Vikram Sahney, Ashok Mittal, and Sandeep Pathak.
Defending his decision, Chadha said he was a founding member of AAP but could no longer align with its direction. He stated that leaving the party was a choice between quitting politics or standing by his principles. The large-scale shift of MPs is expected to have significant implications for Punjab politics and could reshape alliances ahead of upcoming elections.
