Family alleges Bharat Tiwari was killed after surrendering, while political parties
June 24, 2026: The controversy surrounding the alleged encounter killing of Bharat Tiwari in Bihar’s Bhojpur district has intensified, triggering protests and political reactions across the region. In response, a “Sarvdaliya Mahapanchayat” (all-party grand assembly) has been announced in Bilauti village, where community leaders, political representatives and supporters are expected to gather to demand justice and a transparent investigation into the incident.
Bharat Tiwari’s family has claimed that the encounter was not genuine and alleged that he was shot despite surrendering to the police. According to relatives, Tiwari had thrown away his weapon after receiving assurances that his demands would be conveyed to authorities. Videos circulating on social media reportedly show him agreeing to surrender, while another clip allegedly captures villagers expressing concerns that he could be killed even after laying down his arms.
The issue has now taken a political turn, with opposition parties accusing the government of conducting a fake encounter. Some leaders have also linked the case to caste discrimination, alleging that Tiwari was targeted because he belonged to the Brahmin community. The Bihar government has assured a fair and impartial inquiry, but demands for an independent investigation continue to grow. Organisers of the Mahapanchayat claim that thousands of people from different communities will participate, with discussions expected to focus on the justice campaign and future course of action.
