Rajat Kumar, the man hailed as a hero for saving cricketer Rishabh Pant’s life after his car accident in 2022, is now fighting for his own life. The 25-year-old attempted suicide along with his girlfriend, Manu Kashyap, after their families allegedly opposed their relationship. The incident took place in Buchha Basti, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, on February 9.

According to reports, the couple consumed poison after their families refused to accept their relationship and arranged their marriages elsewhere. The opposition was reportedly due to caste differences.
Following Kashyap’s death, her mother filed a complaint alleging that Kumar had kidnapped her daughter and poisoned her. Police have initiated an investigation into the case.
Rajat Kumar gained nationwide recognition in December 2022 when he, along with local resident Nishu Kumar, rescued Rishabh Pant from a near-fatal accident.
Pant was traveling from Delhi to Uttarakhand when his Mercedes crashed into a divider near Roorkee and caught fire. Kumar and Nishu, who were working at a nearby factory, rushed to the scene, pulled Pant from the burning car, and arranged for medical assistance.
Their bravery was widely lauded, and as a gesture of gratitude, Pant later gifted them scooters.
While Pant made a miraculous recovery and returned to professional cricket, Kumar’s life took a tragic turn. The heartbreak of his family’s opposition to his relationship pushed him into despair, leading to this devastating incident.
As of now, Kumar remains in critical condition, with authorities continuing their probe into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
