Nishant Kumar in focus as cabinet expansion nears in Patna.

May 6, 2026: With the cabinet expansion scheduled in Patna, speculation is mounting over the possible political entry of Nishant Kumar, son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Sources within Janata Dal (United) indicate that party leaders and family members are actively persuading him to take up a formal role, possibly through a ministerial berth.

Nishant’s increasing visibility in party activities, especially after the Sadbhav Yatra, has fuelled speculation about his entry into active politics. Insiders suggest that if he agrees, he could be among those sworn in during the ceremony at Gandhi Maidan. However, no official confirmation has been issued so far by the party or the Chief Minister’s Office.

The cabinet expansion is expected to include a mix of senior leaders and new faces from both Janata Dal (United) and Bharatiya Janata Party. Names like Vijay Kumar Sinha, Mangal Pandey, and Ramkripal Yadav are being discussed, along with possible new entrants. Allies such as Hindustani Awam Morcha are also expected to get representation, indicating a broader political balancing act in the upcoming expansion.
