After a setback in TTAADC elections, the BJP reviews strategy and prepares for upcoming civic polls in Tripura.
April 25, 2026: Manik Saha chaired a series of review meetings after the TIPRA Motha Party secured a sweeping victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections, reducing the Bharatiya Janata Party to just four seats from its earlier tally of eight. The chief minister said the party would identify shortcomings and strengthen its approach, particularly in indigenous-dominated regions.
Senior BJP leaders, including Rajib Bhattacharjee and other ministers, attended the meeting where strategies were discussed for future elections. Despite the loss, Saha noted that the BJP’s vote share increased by nearly 8 percent to 27.44 percent, highlighting that the party contested independently in the council polls for the first time. The elections saw a turnout of over 83 percent across 28 seats, with multiple parties, including CPI(M) and Congress, contesting separately.
Looking ahead, Saha emphasized preparation for upcoming municipal and Nagar Panchayat elections. In a separate meeting with party workers, he urged unity and strategic planning. The BJP had previously dominated the 2021 civic polls, winning 217 out of 222 contested seats. The recent results, however, have prompted the party to reassess its approach as it aims to regain momentum in Tripura’s evolving political landscape.
