BJP stages dramatic “chain protest” in Bihar, accusing opposition of blocking Women’s Reservation Bill
April 20, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a powerful protest in Patna, Bihar, under the banner of the “Jan Aakrosh Mahila Sammelan,” aiming to corner the opposition over the Women’s Reservation Bill. The demonstration stood out for its striking imagery, as women party workers appeared in chains to symbolically depict the barriers they claim have been created by opposition parties in advancing women’s rights.
At the heart of the protest was the BJP’s accusation that the opposition has deliberately stalled the Women’s Reservation Bill, thereby undermining women’s empowerment and dignity. Party leaders at the rally asserted that while the government remains committed to ensuring equal representation, political rivals have repeatedly obstructed progress on key legislation meant to uplift women.
Framing the opposition as “anti-women,” the BJP is attempting to consolidate female voter support ahead of upcoming elections. The dramatic “chain protest” reflects a strategic and high-impact political move designed to reinforce the party’s narrative of opposition-led obstruction and to position itself as the champion of gender equality.
