The Bharatiya Janata Party has adopted a new political strategy in Kerala after winning three assembly seats in the 2026 elections.

May 17, 2026: Following its modest but symbolically significant gains in Kerala, the Bharatiya Janata Party has prepared a 13-point political agenda aimed at strengthening its presence in the southern state ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP, which won three seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly, is now focusing on consolidating support among backward Hindu communities while scaling back earlier outreach efforts toward minority groups, particularly Christians.

The strategy was discussed during the BJP state core committee meeting chaired by Rajeev Chandrasekhar. According to party sources, the BJP plans to sharpen its stance against religion-based reservation under the OBC quota system and increase outreach among communities such as the Ezhavas. The resolution also reiterated the party’s core Hindutva positions by raising issues linked to Sabarimala Temple, demanding an audit of temple properties and calling for a probe into alleged irregularities linked to temple assets.

Despite winning only three seats, the BJP sees the results as evidence of gradual consolidation in select regions of Kerala. The party secured around 30 lakh votes and maintained a vote share of 11.4%, slightly above its 2021 performance. Meanwhile, the Congress-led UDF swept the elections with 102 seats, ending a decade of LDF rule and reinforcing its dominance in the state’s political landscape.
