June 22, 2026: A heartbreaking fire tragedy unfolded in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday when a massive blaze engulfed a three-storey commercial building, claiming at least 15 lives. Amid the devastation, rescuers managed to save several cats trapped inside a pet shop and veterinary clinic operating in the building. Visuals from the scene showed emergency personnel carrying the frightened animals to safety while firefighting operations continued.
As thick smoke and flames spread through the structure, rescue teams worked tirelessly to evacuate both people and animals. Videos circulating online captured the dramatic rescue of the cats, providing a rare moment of relief during the tragedy. Eyewitnesses said some occupants jumped from upper floors in desperate attempts to escape the fire. Firefighters and police personnel launched an extensive operation to control the blaze and search for survivors.
Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cut short his scheduled visit to Aligarh and returned to Lucknow to monitor rescue efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives and ₹50,000 for those injured in the fire. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
