The wait for over 18 lakh students continues as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) clarified the status of the Class 12 Board Exam 2026 results.

On Thursday, April 30, 2026, CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj officially refuted media reports suggesting technical glitches or delays due to the newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Bhardwaj asserted that the evaluation process is functioning “perfectly” and remains strictly on schedule, with results expected to be announced in the third week of May 2026.

The On-Screen Marking (OSM) Revolution

This year marks a significant milestone for CBSE as it rolled out the OSM system on a full scale for Class 12. For the first time, answer scripts were evaluated digitally on computer screens, a move intended to enhance accuracy and speed up the tabulation process. Despite rumors of system failures, the Board expressed “pride” in the transition, noting that the digital evaluation has actually performed better than traditional manual methods. While the digital checking might allow for a quicker turnaround, the Board is sticking to its traditional May timeline to ensure thorough final verification.

Past Trends and Passing Criteria

Data from previous years suggests a highly consistent release pattern for the Senior School Certificate Examination. In 2025, 2024, and 2023, the results were consistently declared between May 12 and May 13. If this trend continues, students can expect the link to go live around the same period this year.

  • Minimum Marks: To qualify, students must secure at least 33% marks separately in both theory and practical components.
  • Compartment Exams: Students who fail to meet the criteria in one or two subjects will likely get a second chance through compartment examinations scheduled for August 2026.
