Surya Kant stressed the need for advanced technology and AI-driven judicial systems to improve efficiency and reduce delays in justice delivery.
May 16, 2026: Speaking at an event in Jabalpur, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday called for deeper integration of technology and artificial intelligence in the judicial system to ensure faster and more efficient justice delivery. Addressing a programme organised by Madhya Pradesh High Court on the theme “Fragmentation to fusion, empowering justice via united digital platform integration,” the CJI said technology was the only effective solution to the wastage of judicial time.
The CJI also launched newly developed digital platforms of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and emphasised that the Indian judiciary was committed to making optimum use of technological advancements and AI for the benefit of common citizens. He said technological tools had already become an integral part of the judicial system since the 1990s, but there was now a need to further deepen AI-based judicial architecture. According to him, embracing advanced digital systems would help expedite the disposal of cases and improve overall efficiency.
Praising the Madhya Pradesh High Court for its initiatives, the CJI said there was a need to implement such technological advancements across the country. He also revealed that the Supreme Court had constituted a committee to examine how AI could be effectively used for the benefit of the judicial system, especially in speeding up case disposal. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and MP High Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Sabharwal also attended the programme.
