Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay directed officials to ensure speedy investigation, prosecution
May 25, 2026: C Joseph Vijay on Monday directed officials to promptly register cases involving heinous crimes and ensure swift investigation and prosecution, especially in offences against women and children. The instructions were issued during a high-level review meeting held at the Secretariat in Chennai to discuss crimes against women and children, preventive measures, public awareness and the speedy trial of such cases.
According to an official release, the meeting was attended by senior officials from the police department, social welfare department and the Advocate General’s office. Vijay stressed that sexual offence cases must be handled quickly and stringent punishment secured against the accused. He said effective prosecution and severe punishment would act as a strong deterrent against future crimes.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Chief Secretary M Saikumar, Advocate General Vijay Narayan, Director General of Police Sandeep Rai Rathore and several senior IPS officers handling law and order, intelligence and women and child crime prevention wings. The government also reviewed measures related to faster trials, investigation mechanisms and awareness campaigns aimed at improving women and child safety in the state.
