Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), was allegedly assaulted during a protest in Jaipur on Monday, even as he has repeatedly maintained that his organisation’s demonstrations would remain peaceful and non-violent.
The incident occurred during a protest organised by the CJP at Jaipur’s Shaheed Smarak, where supporters had gathered to raise concerns over alleged examination paper leaks, issues in the education system and rising unemployment.
Videos circulating on social media show Dipke being carried on the shoulders of supporters when a man suddenly grabbed a cloth around his neck. The individual, along with another man, allegedly slapped and struck Dipke multiple times before being pulled away. Moments later, some of Dipke’s supporters were seen confronting and thrashing the alleged attackers.
Protests Follow Demand For Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation
The demonstration was part of a nationwide protest campaign announced by the Cockroach Janta Party after a rally held in Delhi on June 6.
At that event, the organisation had warned that similar protests would be staged across the country unless Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned within a week over the NEET paper leak controversy and other alleged systemic issues affecting the education sector.
Originally launched as a satirical political movement, the CJP has increasingly positioned itself as a pressure group focused on education reforms, youth issues and unemployment.
Dipke Responds To Assault
Reacting to the attack, Dipke said the incident would not deter the organisation from continuing its campaign.
In a post on social media platform X, he described the assault as an act of fear and cowardice.
“Physical attacks are a sign of fear and cowardice. We will continue to raise our voices peacefully. I am a follower of Gandhi and Ambedkar, and I will keep fighting this battle with peace and love,” he wrote.
He also reiterated the group’s demand, adding: “Dharmendra Pradhan must resign.”
Police Detain Six People
Police officials confirmed that six individuals have been detained in connection with the incident and are currently being questioned.
According to authorities, the detainees have been taken to the Vidhayakpuri police station, where investigators are recording their statements and verifying their identities.
“The identities of the people and their motive behind the attack are yet to be established. Their names, addresses and other details are being recorded. An investigation has been launched and the entire sequence of events is being examined,” a police official said.
Officials have not yet disclosed whether the attackers were associated with any organisation or whether the assault was planned.
Permission For Protest Granted With Conditions
Authorities said the Cockroach Janta Party had not initially received permission to hold the demonstration.
However, a conditional approval was reportedly granted late on Sunday night, allowing the event to proceed under specific restrictions.
Among the conditions imposed by authorities was a limit of 800 participants at the venue.
Despite the disruption and violence, the protest continued, with CJP members maintaining their demands regarding examination reforms, accountability in education administration and employment-related concerns.
Growing Attention On CJP Movement
The Jaipur incident has drawn fresh attention to the Cockroach Janta Party and its unconventional style of activism.
While the movement began as a satirical initiative, its recent protests over education-related controversies have attracted growing participation from students and young job seekers across several states.
The assault on Dipke is likely to intensify scrutiny of both the protest movement and the broader issues it seeks to highlight.
