Bhupender Yadav unveils plans for Global Big Cat Summit 2026 under International Big Cat Alliance.
May 6, 2026: Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced that the upcoming Global Big Cat Summit 2026, scheduled for June 1–2, will adopt the Delhi Declaration on Big Cat Conservation, aimed at strengthening global cooperation to protect big cats and their habitats.
Organised by the International Big Cat Alliance, the summit will bring together global leaders, experts, and conservation partners to discuss strategies for safeguarding species such as tigers, lions, leopards, snow leopards, cheetahs, jaguars, and pumas. The initiative is expected to enhance transboundary collaboration and align conservation goals with global biodiversity and climate targets.
Highlighting India’s leadership in wildlife conservation—from Project Tiger to cheetah and snow leopard initiatives—Yadav urged more countries to join IBCA. Established in 2024 under the National Tiger Conservation Authority, the alliance currently includes 24 member nations and aims to reverse the decline in big cat populations through shared expertise and coordinated global action.
