Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced several measures including work from home, fuel cuts
May 14, 2026: Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced a series of fuel-saving and traffic-reduction measures in Delhi in line with an appeal by Narendra Modi to maintain economic stability. The Delhi government said all state offices will observe work from home for two days every week, while efforts will also be made to encourage similar arrangements in private offices.
The government further announced that convoy sizes for ministers and officials have been reduced and petrol and diesel allocations for officers will be cut by 20 per cent. The reduction will affect officials currently receiving monthly fuel quotas between 200 and 250 litres. In another step aimed at reducing traffic and fuel use, the administration will observe one “No Vehicle Day” every week and encourage greater use of public transport.
Officials opting for public transport instead of vehicle allowances will receive a 10 per cent increment, according to the government. Authorities also plan to redesign bus routes to improve connectivity and boost public transport usage across the city. Around half of official meetings will now be conducted online, while courts have been requested to increase virtual hearings. Residents have additionally been encouraged to use the Delhi Metro on Mondays, and the government said no major public events will be organised over the next three months.
