Inspection ordered by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta follows allegations of delayed emergency treatment and uncovers multiple compliance issues.

June 26, 2026: The Delhi government has announced that it will initiate proceedings against Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh after an official inspection reportedly uncovered several irregularities related to emergency patient care, building compliance and fire safety. The inquiry was ordered by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta following a complaint received during a Jan Sunwai session, alleging that a young man with stab injuries was denied immediate treatment over payment concerns, resulting in his death.

An inspection team led by the Central District Magistrate, along with officials from the Health Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Fire Service, visited the hospital and reviewed CCTV footage and emergency records. According to the government’s findings, the footage showed the injured man entering the emergency ward on his own, with officials stating that prompt medical attention could have improved his chances of survival. The allegation of delayed emergency treatment remains the key focus of the ongoing investigation.

During the inspection, authorities also reported alleged unauthorized construction, building by-law violations, fire safety deficiencies, basement misuse and lapses in medical protocol compliance. The Delhi government said the final inquiry report will be examined before legal and administrative action is taken. Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh stated that it would fully cooperate with the investigation and reiterated that patient safety and well-being remain its highest priority.
