A man in his 50s was admitted in critical condition at Delhi’s RML Hospital after suffering severe heat stroke as temperatures continue to soar in the national capital.

May 21, 2026: Delhi’s severe heatwave conditions continue to impact public health, with Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital reporting its second heat stroke case. According to hospital sources, a man aged around 50 was brought unconscious to the emergency department by a police PCR team. Doctors found his body temperature at a dangerous 104°F, while his condition was described as highly critical.

Medical officials said the patient’s Glasgow Coma Scale score was only 4 out of 15, indicating severe neurological distress. Doctors immediately intubated him and placed him on ventilator support. Suspecting acute heat stroke, the emergency and heat stroke unit initiated intensive cooling therapy using ice-cold water treatment.

After nearly 15 minutes of emergency cooling procedures, the patient’s body temperature reportedly reduced to around 100°F. He was later shifted to the medicine department for further treatment under the hospital’s heat stroke management protocol. Doctors said the patient has shown initial improvement and advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours and follow heatwave precautions carefully.
