Husband arrested after 24-year-old officer dies from head injuries; case raises alarm over domestic violence

January 29, 2026: A 24-year-old Delhi Police SWAT commando, Kajal Chaudhary, died after allegedly being struck on the head with a heavy dumbbell by her husband during a domestic dispute over money, police said. The incident occurred at their home on January 22, leaving Chaudhary with critical injuries. She was rushed to hospital but succumbed during treatment. Her husband, Ankur, a clerk with the Ministry of Defence, has been arrested and booked for murder.

Investigators said the assault followed a heated argument between the couple. Moments before the attack, Chaudhary reportedly called her brother, Nikhil, a Delhi Police constable, who claimed he heard sounds of violence while still on the call. Minutes later, Ankur allegedly contacted Nikhil and informed him that he had killed his sister. Police are examining call records and forensic evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Chaudhary joined the Delhi Police in 2022 and was serving with the elite Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit. She married Ankur in 2023, and the couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son. Colleagues remembered her as disciplined and dedicated, with a promising career ahead. The case has sent shockwaves through the police force and renewed focus on domestic violence and accountability, with authorities stating that further investigation is ongoing.
