DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai says TVK, as the single-largest party
May 7, 2026: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai on Thursday said that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam), as the single-largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, should be given the first opportunity to form the government. He said constitutional convention supports inviting the largest party when no pre-poll alliance secures a majority.
Annadurai explained that if the single-largest party fails to secure majority support, the process may move to other alliances or electoral options. He noted that no pre-poll alliance in Tamil Nadu has currently achieved a majority and no rival formation has officially staked a claim to form the government.
He further stated that TVK leader Vijay has already approached the Governor with the support of 113 MLAs. Meanwhile, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in Chennai as discussions over government formation continue in the state.
