June 20, 2025: A 36-year-old woman was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday after allegedly creating a commotion aboard an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Surat and issuing a threat that sparked a serious security scare.

The accused, identified as Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, an Ayurvedic doctor from Shivanahalli near Yelahanka, was traveling alone on Air India Flight IX2749. According to authorities, she refused to follow airline protocols regarding cabin baggage, leading to a dramatic delay and her eventual arrest.

Baggage Dispute Escalates

Mohanbhai reportedly bypassed the check-in counter and insisted on carrying both her bags onboard. After boarding, she placed one of the bags near the restricted crew cabin area and took the other to her seat, 20F. When asked by the cabin crew to store the bag in the designated overhead compartment near her seat, she refused.

Instead, she became increasingly agitated and, during the confrontation, allegedly made verbal threats implying she could crash the aircraft. This prompted immediate intervention by the crew and airport security.

Flight Delayed, Security Alert Triggered

The disruption delayed the flight by nearly two hours. Passengers were disembarked while security personnel handled the situation. The flight resumed only after thorough safety checks were conducted.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Mohanbhai was taken into custody by Bengaluru police and booked under multiple charges related to public endangerment and disruption of airline operations. Authorities are also considering a psychological evaluation to determine her mental fitness.

Airline Statement

An Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, “The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority. The matter was handled swiftly in coordination with airport authorities.”
