Mother of assaulted doctor Dr Srishti Baviskar demands justice, transparency

July 10, 2026: The mother of Dr Srishti Baviskar, one of the two doctors allegedly assaulted by Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre at KDMC’s Shastri Nagar Hospital in Thane district, has demanded guaranteed protection for medical professionals. Speaking in Kalyan, Sangeeta Baviskar said the attack reflected the growing violence faced by doctors and healthcare workers. She urged the government to ensure complete transparency in the investigation so that the truth is placed before the public and such incidents do not recur.

Sangeeta Baviskar questioned the lack of security for doctors who often work continuously for 48 to 72 hours under stressful conditions. She said her daughter was left traumatised after trying to protect fellow doctor Dr Vaibhav Salunkhe during the assault, adding that her mobile phone was also thrown away in the attack. She alleged that no administrative official had visited the family or assured them of support. According to KDMC Medical Health Officer Dr Deepa Shukla, both doctors have submitted their resignations to the private agency through which they were appointed.

Calling for justice, Sangeeta said mistakes, if any, should be addressed through legal procedures rather than violence. She emphasised that both she and her husband are doctors and had encouraged their daughter to serve society through the medical profession. Meanwhile, corporator Ramesh Mhatre, who was arrested in connection with the assault, was admitted to a hospital after complaining of chest pain. Staff members at Thane District Civil Hospital also staged a protest, demanding his immediate disqualification as a corporator.
