Mamata alleges political motive BJP accuses her of interference

January 8, 2026: The Enforcement Directorate raided the Kolkata residence of IPAC chief Prateek Jain as part of its coal scam investigation triggering political tension in West Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at the IPAC office soon after and alleged the action was politically motivated and aimed at collecting information about her party.

Banerjee claimed the raid was carried out at the behest of the Union Home Minister and said central agencies were being misused. Sources said the Trinamool Congress plans to raise the issue at state and national levels alleging overreach by investigative agencies.

The BJP hit back with leader Suvendu Adhikari accusing Banerjee of interfering in the work of central agencies. He said her presence during the raid violated constitutional norms and recalled similar protests in the past. Adhikari said the ED would take appropriate action as per law.
