Police arrested two individuals, including AAP’s Vadodara city president, for allegedly impersonating Intelligence Bureau officers

May 31, 2026: Police have arrested two individuals, including the Aam Aadmi Party’s Vadodara city president, for allegedly posing as Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers and issuing threatening calls to party workers. The investigation began after senior AAP leader Durgesh Pathak claimed on social media that party workers in Gujarat were receiving calls from people identifying themselves as IB officials. The allegation was later highlighted by Arvind Kejriwal, who questioned the authenticity of the calls and said he had personally contacted the number involved.

According to police, the phone number mentioned in the social media posts was traced to Anand district. Investigators subsequently identified Nitin Dobariya and Ashok Oza as key suspects. Police alleged that Oza asked Dobariya to come to Vadodara, after which a call was made to AAP worker Keshav Chauhan. During the conversation, the caller allegedly claimed to be an Intelligence Bureau officer conducting a verification exercise and threatened the party worker.

Investigators believe the incident may have stemmed from internal party rivalry. Police said Chauhan had recently been assigned organisational responsibilities in Vadodara, which allegedly led Oza to view him as a political competitor. Authorities suspect the threatening call was intended to pressure Chauhan into leaving the city. An FIR has been registered at the Anand Cyber Crime Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, and further investigation is underway.
