An FIR has been lodged against Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai over alleged objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi

May 23, 2026: Ajay Rai has been booked by Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a programme in Mahoba district. The FIR was registered at Kotwali Nagar police station following a complaint filed by BJP worker Neeraj Rawat.

According to the complaint, Rai attended a public event organised on May 22 in Mahoba’s Samad Nagar locality along with a large convoy and supporters, allegedly causing obstruction on public roads and disrupting normal movement. The complainant also alleged that Rai used abusive language against the Prime Minister during the programme and claimed that videos of the remarks later went viral on social media.

Rai, however, denied the allegations and termed the viral clip “fake” and AI-generated by the BJP. He said he would file a police complaint after reaching Lucknow. BJP leaders including Yogi Adityanath and Pankaj Chaudhary condemned the remarks. Police said the FIR includes several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint, promoting enmity and intentional insult aimed at provoking breach of peace.
