The Central Government has imposed fresh restrictions on bulk fuel purchases, limiting diesel sales

June 12, 2026: The Central Government has announced new measures to regulate bulk fuel purchases and ensure a steady supply of petroleum products across the country. Under the revised guidelines, retail petrol pumps will not be permitted to sell more than 200 litres of diesel to a single customer in a day. The restrictions will remain in effect for the next 90 days.

The Petroleum Ministry has also made it mandatory for customers purchasing fuel in containers to use only approved containers. The use of unauthorized cans, drums, or storage units will not be allowed under the new rules. Officials said the move is aimed at improving monitoring and preventing excessive stockpiling of fuel.

In addition, factories and commercial establishments have been directed to purchase diesel only from designated commercial fuel outlets instead of regular retail petrol pumps. The government said the measures are intended to prevent panic buying, curb black marketing, and maintain uninterrupted fuel availability across the country.
