Accuses BJP of Manipulating Electoral Rolls in Bengal

March 31, 2026: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting to include “illegal voters” from states like Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in the electoral rolls to influence poll outcomes. Addressing a rally in Paschim Medinipur, she claimed that large-scale voter registration activity had raised concerns, citing reports of around 30,000 forms being submitted in a single day.

Banerjee further accused the BJP of planning to transport outstation voters and alleged collusion with the Election Commission of India to remove names of women and minorities from voter lists. She said such actions undermine democratic rights and vowed that her party would resist any attempts to manipulate the electoral process.

Reiterating her political pitch, Banerjee urged voters to consider her as the face across all constituencies rather than focusing on individual candidates. She also alleged that the BJP would impose restrictions on food habits and attempt to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state, asserting that her party would strongly oppose such moves.
