India and Bangladesh held four days of high-level border talks in New Delhi, discussing border deaths, illegal crossings, smuggling
June 12, 2026: India and Bangladesh concluded the 57th edition of their bi-annual Director General-level border coordination conference in New Delhi on June 11. The four-day meeting was attended by Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Praveen Kumar and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui. Both sides reviewed a range of border management and security issues, including illegal crossings, border deaths, and cross-border criminal activities.
During the discussions, the two delegations focused on tackling trans-border crimes such as narcotics smuggling, arms trafficking, counterfeit currency circulation, gold smuggling, human trafficking, and unauthorized border movement. They also reviewed the implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan, confidence-building measures, and cooperation in addressing emerging security concerns along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and security along the border. The delegations agreed to strengthen coordinated patrols, enhance information sharing, and increase vigilance against criminal networks. The conference concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing satisfaction over the discussions and committing to deeper cooperation and professional engagement. The next round of talks is expected to take place in Dhaka in November.
