External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated India’s support for a two-state solution to the Palestine issue while highlighting growing instability

May 14, 2026: S Jaishankar on Thursday reaffirmed India’s support for a two-state solution to the Palestine issue during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. In his national statement, Jaishankar expressed concern over rising instability across West Asia, warning that tensions in the region, threats to maritime traffic and disruptions to energy infrastructure reflected a fragile security environment.

Speaking on the Israel–Palestine conflict, Jaishankar said India continued to support peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. He also highlighted ongoing crises in Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Yemen and Libya, noting that these conflicts carried serious humanitarian and security consequences. The minister stressed the need to uphold international law, protect civilians and avoid targeting public infrastructure during conflicts.

Jaishankar added that India remained ready to contribute constructively to efforts aimed at de-escalation and restoring regional stability. Meanwhile, reports from Israel said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed the government not to advance a proposed bill seeking to repeal the Oslo Accords. The proposed legislation reportedly sought to block the establishment of a Palestinian state and allow further settlement expansion in parts of the West Bank.
