India dismissed Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s remarks on PM Narendra Modi’s Seychelles honour
July 5, 2026: India strongly criticised Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif after he questioned the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” award conferred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Seychelles. Government sources described Asif’s remarks as baseless and accused him of making comments on issues beyond his understanding. The response came after Asif claimed the honour was an “engineered recognition” allegedly created ahead of PM Modi’s visit and cited reported typographical errors in an early version of the award citation.
The Indian government maintained that the honour was awarded in recognition of PM Modi’s leadership on climate action, the Blue Economy, sustainable ocean governance and his support for developing nations and Small Island Developing States. The award marks the first time the distinguished honour has been conferred. India also dismissed Pakistan’s criticism as being driven by “envy” rather than facts.
Meanwhile, the Seychelles government rejected allegations that the award had been fabricated for the visit. In an official statement, the Office of the President clarified that the Order of the Guardian of the Blue Horizon had been established under the National Honours Act well before PM Modi’s arrival. It explained that an earlier version of the citation circulating online was only a draft released before final proofreading, while the final document presented during the ceremony was error-free and officially approved.
